South Bank Parkland


South Bank Parklands are beautifully-made parklands covering 17 hectares of land mass that has been around since June 20, 1992 where the Expo `88 site once stood. Its relaxed atmosphere makes it a great choice for engaging in recreational activities such as taking a stroll, swimming, riding a bike, eating at its restaurants and watching lively shows.

Situated near the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens at the south and the Brisbane Central Business District by the Victoria Bridge at the northern end, the parklands are open to the public 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Walkways and cycle paths make up the gardens and tropical forest, with bougainvillea of bright colors of magenta and purple stretching to a kilometer wide that decorate the parklands, adding to the pleasant experience.

There are three playgrounds where children can run around and play, as well as selected areas where you can bike and wonder at the breathtaking

views of the city skyline or the riverside. For those in the mood for shopping, Lifestyle Markets are open from Friday night until Sunday evening.

Shoppers can discover a wide array of crafts, trinkets and collectibles here, a good place for tourists in the lookout for souvenir gift items.

A favorite activity when visiting South Banks Parklands is taking a cool swim at the Streets Beach. This manmade beach with its lagoon, exotic lush

greens and picturesque palm trees offer the perfect choice for a summer getaway found right in the heart of the metropolis. Lifeguards look after the

beach seven days a week.

There a plenty of South Bank restaurants available that serves several culinary options. From taking a quick bite to having a gourmet feast or indulging

for some slice of mouthwatering pizza, it's all here. Alfresco cafes can be also found for that hot cup of coffee that fits the ambiance. And for people

craving for sumptuous serving of barbecue, several barbecue facilities are found along these banks near picnic tables for an enjoyable meal.

Many theaters and entertainment venues can be found here where events filled with activity day and night. Among the places of arts, culture

and entertainment include the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Queensland Museum.
